This section deals with suppliers who specialise in designing and
erecting new softwood frame buildings (sometimes
called Post and Beam) in high quality large section
softwood. These buildings typically capture the
same feel as traditional oak frame architecture
but usually have simpler design features that
provide a more modern look. They are usually
cheaper to build because softwood beams are cheaper
than green oak. An important difference is that
a softwood frame house will normally be built
using dried softwood that does not move significantly
after construction.
This section will be expanded to cover specialist trades and advisors who can help both the professional and self-builder to achieve a successful project and obtain the necessary planing approvals.
